Sophie Finds Her Words

Story Illustration

Every day after school, Sophie would play in the park with her friends. She loved the feeling of the warm sun on her face and the laughter that echoed around the playground.

One afternoon, Sophie's favorite swing was taken by another child. She stomped her foot, feeling her stomach twist with frustration. 'That's my swing!' she shouted.

Her friend, Lily, looked at her with concern. 'Sophie, you seem really mad. What's going on?'

'I just want to swing, but that boy won't share,' Sophie grumbled.

Lily nodded and said, 'I understand. Let's figure this out together.'

Sophie walked over to the boy and said, 'Can I please have a turn on the swing? I'll only be a few minutes.'

The boy frowned but eventually agreed, and Sophie took her turn. As she swung back and forth, she felt the anger slowly melt away.

That evening, Sophie sat with her mom at the kitchen table. 'Mom, I got so mad today at the park,' she said. 'But then I talked to the boy, and it worked out.'

'I'm glad you found a way to handle your feelings, Sophie,' her mom said. 'Anger is like a monster inside of us. Sometimes, all it needs is a little understanding to calm down.'
